Tangier, a fascinating and multicultural city

Tangier, in northern Morocco, is a port city open to the Strait of Gibraltar. The city’s geographic position and history makes it charming and full of architectural treasures and spectacular panoramas. Located at the crossroads of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, it is a real maritime crossroads, which you can admire while walking on the bay of Tangier.

You can also explore the winding streets of the white city, to discover the medina and all its traditional shops. We advise you to go to the Kasbah of Tangier, the highest point of the hill. It houses a museum that traces the history of the city, a magnificent 17th century building nestled between the walls of the palace of the sultans. From the top of this promontory, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a breathtaking view of the port and, on clear days, on the Spanish coast.

Foodies will also be delighted: Tangier is full of street shops where you can buy calientes, flans made from chickpea flour. In the medina you can find the Grand Socco, a large colourful market selling both tajines and baghrir pancakes.

Tangier looks like a museum: in the streets, treasures of history are present, everywhere, monuments stand and evoke the glories of the past. Yet nothing seems petrified, draped in a bygone greatness. This city is vibrant, full of life: the clamour of the souks resound, just like the beating of the tools of the craftsmen at work.
Two markets make the reputation of Tangier: the big Socco and the small. In the lively streets of the Medina, merchants are busy: here, it is a first: lemons, olives, figs, all the colors of the sun are displayed on its stall; further, a passementerie offers its products while a tanner beats skins and refines its leathers.
Take a break, join the little Socco and sit on the terrace of one of these cafes popular with the greatest artists. Fertile lands, lively souks and authentic crafts, thats the charm of Tangier!
